Well... these days maybe not so lean... but I have started cleaning the house like a crazy woman.(:
Don't worry, this post will be short. I'm not going to describe how to scrub toilets or anything like that. What I will do is tell you about one of those wonderful 'why didn't I think of that?' inventions; the Bagster. I really hope whoever came up with this thing gets a lot of money, because it has already made my life a lot easier.
The Bagster is a bag dumpster. Some of you may already have seen their advertised in a home improvement magazine, but if these are new to you, let me tell you how wonderful they are.
You buy them at Home Depot or Lowes. You actually can go online and search for a hardware store in your neighborhood that sells them (www.thebagster.com). Anyways, our location sold them for $30. When you're at the store this is what they look like:
I had a hard time finding it, it turned out to be in the outside gardening area of the store, so if you go to a Home Depot, look there first.
You just take this sucker out of the bag and unfold it on your lawn. I did this on my own, you don't need a second person. Then, you pull up the sides, keeping them folded over. this fold is helps it keep its square shape. It's not quite as box like as the instructions make it look, but I think it holds it shape pretty well.
Then you just fill it! As you put more and more trash in it you can fold the sides up and it will keep it's shape. The only rule is the yellow straps need to remain outside the bag and must be able to touch at the top. After you've filled it half way, I suggest tying them together with some twine. Then you wont accidentally fill it too much. I don't have any twine at my empty house so I just held up the straps and checked every once and a while.
I love this product. Made clearing out our carpet SO much easier. I did end up needing to buy two to clear 1350 sq ft of carpet. They each hold about half. The bag says it can hold 900 sq ft of carpet but I don't see how that's possible; unless they aren't counting the carpet padding... and really who rips up carpet but leaves the padding? That's just gross.
Anyways, the last step will be calling WM to come take it away. The bag says that some areas charge a fee to remove it. I hope Houston doesn't, but even if they do these suckers are still worth it. It has made the process of cleaning out our house so much easier.
Speaking of cleaning, I have to give my family some credit for helping a girl out. My sister tackled our kitchen and the fridge (it was pretty gross). My in-laws came over last weekend and carried laminate, helped remove carpet, pulled carpet tack (thanks Rachel!) and my mother-in-law even cleaned our bathrooms. Here's Daniel helping mop the bathroom floor:
Tomorrow we start installing the new floor. I'm very excited to share the process with you next week! Wish me luck!
