Change of Address = Coupons

I'm taking a break from all the laminate posts today to share a mistake we made (aka learn from our mistake so it benefits someone.)

Our mistake was waiting too long to change our address. See, I changed our address about two weeks after we bought the house. This was right about the time we were setting up our Internet, buying stuff for the house, basically just spending a LOT of money. Well, as it turns out, when you change your address the post office sends you a packet of coupons. When we received the packet a few day ago LJ made the comment "oh great, you change your address and the first thing that the post office does is send you junk mail." I told him that there still might be something useful and tore open the envelope.

What I proceeded to take out seemed to be a coupon for everything we had already spent money on. :(

There was $100 visa gift card offer if you signed up for Uverse, we just signed up two weeks ago. There was a $50 off purchase of $250 or more at Ikea, we just bought our couch there two weeks ago. I think there was a total of five or six coupons we could have used, totaling to a couple hundred dollars worth of savings. So frustrating.

So, a word to the wise: while I don't suggest changing your address before you close (after all, we had a house fall through just a week before close) I would advise every new homeowner to go online and change their address the day after close; and then wait to buy anything big until after you get your packet.
