Am I crazy?

So, I really really really love the color Teal. Well, actually I wouldn't say exactly teal, the color I like so much has a little more green in it, but for lack of a well known color name I'll go with teal. Anyways, it's not really a normal color to decorate with. I think most people don't want to go with something that bright. I don't know if they're scared of what it will look like, or just don't find it relaxing (or both) but I think it's SO pretty. The problem with loving a color that is not used in home decor very often is that I have a hard time finding inspiration pictures. I don't want to copy anything directly, my 'I'll do it myself" side of me would never allow that. I just want to be able to look at some design elements used successfully and be able to incorporate them into my own home.

Well, you can imagine my excitement a few months ago when I found the blog "House of Turquoise". This blog is devoted to successfully using Turquoise in home decor.

I love this blog because I can get ideas of how to used a bright color without the house looking like a circus. However, I'm starting to notice a theme... almost all the homes she shows are beach houses in the Hamptons. I don't know if you realize this, but I do not live in the Hamptons, I live in Texas. I have no waterfront property, nor do I have just gobs of money to spend on home decor. I mean, look at this house:

That's just crazy! I mean, don't get me wrong, if someone handed me the keys I'd probably be so happy I wouldn't be able to speak.. but that's never going to happen.

So, lately I've started wondering if bright colors only work well in REALLY big spaces. I don't have an answer yet, only 'I hope not'. I guess we'll find out (whenever I finally get a home to work on).

Until then, let me know if you find any great examples out there. :)

  1. My favorite places for bright colors are tiny tiny places (think closet-sized bathrooms in fuscia or black).
