Shower Head Switch = Huge Difference

When LJ and I first walked through our house one of the most memorable things we saw was the hall bathroom's shower. After all, it is HUGE (and the only part of the house that was updated at the time). As we gave tours of the house to our friends they always commented on how nice that shower would be. Here's a picture of it when we bought it:

I was really looking forward to showering in this shower, which is why I was SO disappointed when I first used it. That fancy shower head has a bunch of different settings, but all of them resulted in a pitiful dibble of water. It was enough to bathe under, but not nearly the experience I had hoped for.

I was worried that maybe a pipe was broken somewhere in the wall of the shower, or that our house was just old and crappy water pressure was our fate. Then my father in law came over and happened to ask about the shower. When we told him about the water pressure he replied "Have you tried changing out the shower head?" Apparently the stuff in our water builds up in a shower head and slowly causes the holes to get smaller and smaller. One would think that this would increase water pressure, like when you put your thumb on the end of a hose, but apparently it just slowly stops your water flow altogether. We switched shower heads with the master bathroom shower (which is unusable because of the broken drain). This one was old and has only two settings and looked pitiful:

But guess what? It worked GREAT! Now we love our shower. I think eventually we'll buy a new nice one, but for the time being we're just glad there was nothing wrong with our actual shower. This may be the type of thing most people know, but as new homeowners of an old home we had NO idea...so I thought I'd share. :)
