I have to be honest, it's crazy how fast this past year has gone by. I've been looking back over the whole year I guess it shouldn't surprise me, considering how busy I've been.
I like New Year's resolutions. I know a lot of people think they are dumb or that they are just good intentions, but I take them pretty seriously. I like the idea of a clean slate in the New Year and using it to make a change in your personal life. My 2012 resolution was to stop planning. Ok, let me explain (because we all know I could stop breathing before I could completely stop planning things). Last year as the sale on the house we were trying to buy fell through a week before close (and after we had declined to renew our apt lease!) I realized that I had planned out too much in that house. I had mentally planned out the next 5-10 years and so when the house fell through I was crushed. So, I decided to stop planning years in advance and just focus on the now. This resolution has served me well. Not only did another house fall through the week of close, but many things have turned out different than expected. But I've weathered the storm a lot better than I think I would have in the past. I've always believed God had a plan, but it goes a lot easier when you stop trying to guess what that plan is.
So now it's New Years Eve again and I'm using the opportunity to set some goals for next year. This year I have three:
1. Gluten Free for 2013. You may remember me blogging in the past about PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Symptom) and the infertility it causes. Well, PCOS doesn't have one obvious cause. While I could go on for a while on the subject, I will just say that many women with PCOS who have changed to a GF diet have seen an improvement in their symptoms. So, for 2013 I've decided to cut Gluten out of my diet. Not going to lie, I'm not really looking forward to it, but at least I can still have Mexican food! (I have a feeling I'll be eating it a lot).
2. Continue to Blog. I started this blog in April, the day after my birthday (first post found here). I started it to document everything that happens in my life and I've found that I really enjoy it. Not only do I enjoy the aspect of sharing what I've learned about home improvement, but it provides me motivation to keep working on the house. After all, I wont have content unless I keep at it. :)
3. Get Certified to Adopt. If you read my post here, you know LJ and I desire to adopt children. We has planned to already be certified to adopt by now, but the house has taken longer than expected to get to where we'd pass a home inspection. But it's 'livable' now (aka we have flooring in all the rooms!) and so we're starting the classes next week (I promise I'll blog about the process sometime soon). While I'd love to become a parent in 2013, I know it's foolish to assume we'll get a child quickly. So, my goal is to get ready for a child. I want to be certified and get the nursery all set up this year. Then if we actually get a child it will be a pleasant surprise!
Well, those are my 2013 goals/resolutions/whatever you want to call them. I'm excited to see what 2013 holds!
