One Day Road Trip

Last Saturday LJ, my brother in law John, and I took a one day road trip to their cousin's wedding. It was a lot of fun, well most of it was. (If you follow me on Instagram you've seen most of these pictures already, but you'll get a better explanation here.)

We left Houston at 10:30am. Before we left I made sure to make myself a little nest in the Caddy. After all, I can't ride 10 hours in a car without bringing along a bunch stuff to work on. :)
Here we are heading out.... not so awake:
Those of you who aren't from Houston probably don't know it, but we have a giant statue of Sam Houston just north of the city. I've seen it while driving by multiple times, but never stopped. We decided to stop this time. I love finding random things when on a road trip, even a mini road trip like this one.
Most of the drive there was LJ and John talking about sports while I cross stitched in the back seat. What can I say? I'm an 80 year old in a 28 year old body. Only thing that happened of note was my lunch. Ok, it's not really of note, but look! My chicken looked like Texas! Or it almost did so I used my knife and fork and helped it along.
Wow Kris... Texas shaped chicken? What can I say? It was really interesting at the time! (Road trips make me a little delirious).

5 hours of driving later we got in to Weatherford, a little city outside Fort Worth. My in laws were spending the night so I was able to use their hotel room for a quick hair/makeup/dress change:
Anna and Rachel (SILs) looked so pretty!
The wedding was very sweet. The groom is in the Air Force and so the wedding colors were blue and yellow. I got a couple of nice pictures of this cute couple:

The reception was inside a local Texas museum. I liked that guests could wander through the museum as we waited for the bridal party to arrive. Mooooooooooooo
Rachel was kind enough to act out a picture of some chief's 'trophy wife'. It seems the Native Americans took that term quite literally.
There was a photo booth at the wedding, so LJ and I of course had to hit that up.
I tried to get a good picture of the bride and groom entering the room, but with my flash turned off my camera was just too slow to get anything. Here's the best of all the reception pictures. It's their first dance:
Soon after, we hugged everyone and it was time to head back. We had a long drive ahead and didn't want to get home too late.

I was prepared for this drive. I brought not only lots to do, but pajama pants to wear on the way back. After all, what's more comfortable? The guys didn't really think to bring clothes to ride back in. As I told them about my PJs an idea occurred to us... which lead to our late night PJ trip at Target.
LJ and John each tried a pair of PJ pants on in the dressing room and liked them so much they wore them through check out. Who needs a bag? We'll just wear our purchases, Thank You! The check out guy was pretty amused. Heck, everyone who saw us was obviously trying not to stare. After changing their shirts in the bathroom we were ready to go, comfortable and in a great mood for the drive home.

That's when the not fun part started.

LJ's care started having issues with a sensor in the last few hours of our drive to Whetherford. On the way home I'd say we stopped the car on average every 15 minutes. For those of you bad at math, stopping every 15 minutes on a 5 hour drive means we stopped about 20 times. The car would be fine for a little while and then all of a sudden we'd slow down no matter how much gas LJ gave it. At that timehwe'd have to pull over on the side of the road turn off the car and turn it back on. It was pretty scary.

I was always a little worried that some big 18 wheeler was going to plow into the back of us as we sat on the side of the road. But eventually we got home, safe and sound. But, it did taint the fun little time we'd been having.

But over all I'll still remember this little trip with fondness, including the look on the Target employee's face.

(FYI, LJ has since taken the car in and now it's working great.)
