Most of the time I try to wait until a project is finished, so I can share the before and after all in one post. But every once and a while I get too excited to wait...
Our Kitchen is Yellow. I've capitalized it for a reason. It's not kind of yellow or yellow-ish, it's straight up Yellow. And while I'm sure there are lots of wonderful people who love yellow (Mom that includes you), I am not one of them. It doesn't offend me like orange does, but I never ever want it on one of my walls. So, I'm pretty excited about painting the Kitchen. Here are some before pictures of the breakfast area.
On Sunday I decided to start painting the Kitchen. Yeah...Sunday is kind of a late day to start a weekend project, but we spent all Saturday driving to Dallas and I wanted to get something started. So I ran over to Home Depot and picked out a color. This is the type of paint I got:
And here is the color:
If you can't read it, it's called Gem Turquoise. It's just a coincidence that my nails match. I don't actually change my nail color based on the home project I'm tackling (but maybe I should start!).
This is a pretty bright blue color. I chose it because eventually we'll either paint the cabinets white or we'll straight up replace them with white cabinets, and I think the white and this blue together will look very clean. Plus there isn't a lot of wall space, so I figured I can go a little bold. The most wall space in the whole kitchen area is the wall that leads to the laundry room, and even it has a doorway, so it's not all wall. I'm probably going to have to hang some artwork on this wall though, to tone it down a touch.
When prepping the walls before painting I took off the face-plate to the light switch and based on what I found it looks like the current paint job is right over the old wall paper. It would explain the weird texture to the walls. In this picture you can see the wall paper in the bottom left corner of the outlet box.
Because I started this project on a Sunday, and it takes a while to prep the area (take down blinds, tape off areas, pull out nails, remove face-plates, move furniture away from walls, etc.) I didn't get a ton finished, but I'll show you what I have.
Ok, the blue is bright, but not THIS bright. The lighting in this picture makes it look much blue-er than it actually is. This one is a little bit better:
See where the sunlight is coming in and hitting the paint in the window box? That's a better representation of this color. (Is any one else bothered by that light fixture? Good Lord, it needs to go... adding to list now).
This is the best picture I was able to take. It does a good job of comparing the old and new colors and shows you how the two play off of the brown cabinets I think the blue and brown will look nice together until I'm able to decide what to do with the kitchen.
Ok, that's where I'm at, hopefully I'll get some more time to paint this weekend. Until then, my kitchen is a wreck but seeing the yellow start to go away makes me smile every morning.
This project is continued here.
Good riddance, yellow! (: What'd y'all have to go to Dallas for?
