Google Reader...where are you?

Since it's blogiversary week I thought this would be an appropriate time to discuss something that has been annoying me... Why is Google Reader going away?

If you read blogs on a regular basis, chances are you use some sort of reader. For those of you who don't, readers are useful because they pull all the new posts from your favorite blogs so you only have to check one site to see all your blogs.

Well, about a month ago, when I went to use Google Reader a little window popped up saying that Google Reader would no longer exists starting on July 1st. I was a little surprised. I guess others don't use it as much as I do. It was definitely in the 'wake up - get coffee - check websites' daily routine. I complained to a friend and she recommended I switch to Feedly. This reader has a prettier interface and will import all your blogs from Google Reader. I thought to myself "I have some time, I'll go check it out later".

The next week Google Reader was just gone from my Google account. Like, it's nowhere. Seriously Google??? What's next? My blog?

Ok, I know I'm getting a little dramatic here. But it really annoyed me. Google told me I had until July 1st (but it LIED!). I was worried I wouldn't even remember the names of some of the blogs I follow. But, I headed over the Feedly and put in my google email account info and it was still able to pull my favorite blogs from Google Reader. Yay! So, I'm telling you now, before Google Reader disappears forever... find a new reader!

  1. You may know this already, but you can still get to your Reader by going to google.com/reader. Sad that we'll be losing it for good though :( So far I don't like feedly as much -- great aesthetic, but I miss some of the Reader features. :( :( :( Boo Google.

    1. Didn't realize I could still get to it! Oh well, since it's leaving anyways I think it's best we just break up now. Less heart ache that way ;)

I agree feedly isn't as good as google reader, so if you find a reader closer to google's, let me know!
