Project 11: Painting the Dining Room & Formal Living Room

I am in L.O.V.E. with our Dining Room wall color! And the good news is LJ likes it too! We had a deal that if he didn't like the color I picked after living with it for a month, we would re-paint. After all, no one should live with a color they hate. But the good news is he loves it! Well, love may be a strong word, but he likes it and that's what's important.

So, on to the pictures! To remind you, here the the 'Before' from when we purchased the house:

Here it is after the foundation guys left:

This is what it looked like before I started painting. Flooring is done; room is pretty plane (I removed the table so I wouldn't accidentally spill paint on it).

The colors I chose are Valspar paint colors Granite and Notre Dame. Oh, and Valspar is exclusively at Lowe's. LJ found this out when I sent him to Home Depot to pick up more paint (sorry babe!). My plan was Notre Dame on top and Granite on the bottom (under chair rail). Here is what it looked like when I started, so you can see the contrast between the old white and the new gray:

And here is a pic taken both rooms were done! I did the formal living room in the Notre Dame (lighter shade). This photo isn't a true representation of the color, the light looks very yellow, I'm just using it because you can see the formal living room walls:

This is a much better idea of what the color looks like:

Let's see that before and after again!

Well, what do you think?

Project cost: I already had the painting supplies so about $75 for the paint (two cans of Notre Dame, one of Granite)

Time: About 10 hours total, split between Sat and Sun to allow the first coat to dry

Difficulty: Easy. Paint is SUCH a great way to make a big impact, and it's SO easy to do!

    1. Thanks! :) We're pretty happy with how it turned out. Though it makes my taste look pretty calm... just wait until I throw some color in there. I'm thinking giant green china hutch... you know, go bold or go home ;)

    1. Thanks! I'm pretty happy with the color two. It's been a few weeks now since I painted it and I'm still just as happy with it...good sign.

I've considered removing the column and replacing them with ones that are a little less dated... not sure though, seems like it might be the type of thing that seems easy but in reality is really hard and a bad idea...

  3. This article is very helpful and informative. Painting with Airless sprayer is so much faster and tidier. Thank you for sharing!
