Starting the Art Wall

Our living room doesn't have much blank wall space. There just isn't much left between the open doorways, built in shelving, box window and fireplace. What's left is about 6 or 7 feet of wall to the right of the backdoor. This is the best picture I could find to show you want I mean:

I want to put a wall of art here. Something to brighten up the place when you view the room from the entry way. I love art. There are just so many pieces of beauty out there to choose from. But I don't want to just pick stuff I like, I want to find things with meaning. I hadn't decided where to start and then I saw a print on Fab that I just couldn't pass up. Here it is when I got it in the mail.

It was only $14 plus shipping and it is of Washington DC; where LJ and I lived while he attended Law School. DC will always have a special place in my heart, and this print has one of my favorite shades of blue. Here's a close up so you can see the detail. (The blue isn't solid, it has a faint pattern)

I ran right out to Target and got a frame that will give this print a lot of wall space. Kind of funny to me that the frame ($26) cost more than the print.

I don't want to hurt this print by permanently attaching it to the mat, so I used painters tape. After all, I've got plenty of it laying around.

This worked out really well. I like how it looks. Here it is just sitting on the ground in front of the wall it will eventually go on.

But now I'll go put it somewhere save, because putting it right inside the back door is probably not a good idea!
